With the end of June fast approaching, it also means the first month of Summer Media Madness on Football Index is nearly complete. Following on from our first update a couple of weeks ago, let's again look at which players have so far been dominating the media and rewarding traders with the most dividends.
After two weeks, it was Ajax defender Matthijs de Ligt leading the way on 16p, but despite adding a further 2p to his total, it is, well who else but Paul Pogba who now heads the dividend table. After two weeks, Pogba had just 9p in dividends which means in the subsequent two weeks, he has returned a whopping 21p to bring his total to 30p.
Pogba is closely followed by fellow long standing media magnet Neymar. With strong rumours of a return to Barcelona, the Brazilian superstar is just a penny behind Pogba on 29p, with an even more impressive 24p added in the last two weeks!
Third on the list is yet another player who has benefitted from strong transfer news to one of Europe's elite clubs. Aaron Wan-Bissaka's transfer to Manchester United has seen him go from propping up the dividend table on 1p after two weeks to now 20p.
Elsewhere, previous high fliers such as Virgil van Dijk and Cristiano Ronaldo have failed to add anything to their 12p hauls during the last fortnight. Eden Hazard has also only added 3p to his total since our last update.
As before, let's also look at which players have made the most of the extra 4th and 5th places.
Currently 6 players have more than one 4th place win: Neymar, Kieran Tierney, Paul Pogba, Romelu Lukaku, Eden Hazard and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. Of those, Kieran Tierney is worth highlighting as 50% of his 6p return has come from 4th place finishes.
In 5th place it's a similar story with again, six players on more than one win: Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Neymar, Virgil van Dijk, Eden Hazard, Philippe Coutinho and Tanguy Ndombele. Wan-Bissaka is so far the only player to claim three 5th places. Meanwhile, newcomer to the party Tanguy Ndombele has earned his first ever dividends on Football Index thanks to those two 5th place wins.
In our first update there were 24 players who had claimed dividends. Since then a further eleven players have earned at least 1p. The highest placed of those is new Manchester United signing Daniel James with 8p.
Some other names of note making their first appearance on the Summer Media Madness dividend table are Christian Pulisic (2p), Max Aarons (1p), Harry Maguire (4p) and Youri Tielemans (1p).
We'll be back with another update during the middle of July to see if Paul Pogba and Neymar are still battling it out, or if anyone else can keep pace with them.
