We are now nearly two weeks into the first ever Summer Media Madness period on Football Index, so we thought now would be a good time to look at which players have so far been most productive for their owners.
Despite the huge transfer of Eden Hazard to Real Madrid and Manchester United making their first summer signing of Daniel James, it's perhaps a little surprising to see Ajax defender Matthijs de Ligt as the highest dividend returner so far.
He has so far delivered 16p in dividends which has arrived courtesy of one 1st place, four each of 2nd and 3rd place and once in 4th place. Indeed, of the 13 days so far, he has only failed to place in the top five just three times. With continued transfer speculation linking him to a host of the elite clubs around Europe, De Ligt looks like he could continue to deliver the dividends for some time yet.
Following De Ligt, we have a a trio of players on 12p: Virgil van Dijk, Eden Hazard and Cristiano Ronaldo. As alluded to above, it's no surprise to see Hazard in amongst the dividends thanks to his now completed transfer to Real Madrid.
Virgil van Dijk has benefited from the Champions League victory and following that, the Nations League internationals vs England and Portugal.
Meanwhile, despite the off-field news surrounding Cristiano Ronaldo, his performances in leading Portugal to Nations League victory has been the main source of his three 1st place finishes.
The top five is completed by, of course, Paul Pogba with 9p collected to his overflowing pot of dividends so far. This has come from a steady two 1st places and one each in 3rd, 4th and 5th place.
So let's look now at which players have benefited from the extra Media places.
So far, no players have really stood out but leading the pack on two 4th place wins is Manchester United striker Romelu Lukaku. Having no other top five placing so far, Lukaku is certainly one player who has benefited traders thanks to the extra dividend places on offer.
Virgil van Dijk has also boosted his previously mentioned returns with two 5th place wins netting an extra 2p to investors.
Finally, there are so far eight players who have claimed a single 4th or 5th place win: Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Christian Eriksen, Mesut Ozil, Lionel Messi, Philippe Coutinho, Ben Chilwell, Yannick Carrasco and Nabil Fekir.
Of those, it was also their first ever Media dividend wins for both Ben Chilwell and Yannick Carrasco.
It will be interesting to see how the next couple of weeks play out and if we will see several other first time winners. We'll be back with another update towards the end of June to find out!
