Arsenal Bidding To Sign Alexandre Lacazette and Thomas Lemar For £85m

Despite failing to qualify for the Champions League for the first time since dinosaurs roamed the earth, it appears Arsenal are still determined to show they mean business this summer.

Reports have emerged that Arsene Wenger wants to strengthen his squad with the signing of two French stars, Alexandre Lacazette and Thomas Lemar. The bids are reportedly in the region of a combined £80m for the pair, with £30m being suggested as their offer for Lemar.

With both bids rejected, it will be interesting to see how much further the notoriously stingy Wenger will be willing to go in order to secure his targets. Lyon are understood to be asking upwards of £50m for Lacazette, which if the rumoured £80m combined bids is correct, means Arsenal can't be too far off the asking price.

As for Lemar, it appears Monaco are looking for a minimum of £35m, so again the Gunners don't seem to be too far apart in their valuations.

With further reports suggesting that Manchester City are hot in the pursuit of Alexis Sanchez, Arsenal may need to move quickly in these deals - either to keep Sanchez happy that the club is moving forward, or at the very least, bring in high quality replacements.

So let's take a look at what the two players could bring to The Emirates should Arsenal push through both deals.

Starting with Lacazette, it's no secret that Arsenal lack real quality up front. With the likes of Giroud, Welbeck and Perez failing to cement the main striker roll, it's often left Sanchez to take on the responsibility.

Lacazette has a tremendous record for Lyon, notching a whopping 28 goals in his 30 league appearances last season. At nearly double the other 3 Arsenal forwards combined, it shows a clear need for someone like Lacazette.

Lacazette trumps the other three in almost every aspect of the attacking game with just his 3 assists being nothing to shout home about. However when it comes to shots and dribbles per game, he clearly runs away with things.

There's no doubt that if Arsenal could sign Lacazette, he would instantly improve them in a key position.

When it comes to Lemar, the story is a little different to judge. Playing mainly as an attacking wide player, the obvious player compare him to would be Sanchez. Of course, we don't even have to show the stats to know the results there, so let's compare him with Walcott, Oxlade-Chamberlain and Mesut Ozil.

As we can see, the stats are shared around fairly equally amongst the attacking players here. However, what we can see is that whilst Lemar doesn't claim the winner in most categories, he's a very close second.

His goal return is only one less than Walcott, he wins the assists category, and is only marginally second in both key passes and dribbles per game to Ozil and The Ox respectively.

So whilst Lemar may not be up to the standard of Alexis Sanchez just yet, he would undoubtedly add some much needed consistency in all departments compared to those already there.

When it comes to their prices on the Football Index, both have plenty of room for growth. Lacazette currently sits at around £3.10, whilst Lemar is around £1.60. This comes after both players have already featured amongst the recent  Buzz winners, which clearly shows their potential on the Index.

We could easily see Lacazette reach the £4 mark and maybe beyond were he to become Arsenal's main striker next season. Meanwhile, Lemar perhaps doesn't have quite the same level of growth in him, we still could see a price of over £2 being more than in reach.

And if both players take the league by storm, as there is every chance of them doing so, they should see more than their fair share of Buzz wins.
